Abstract

A very important characteristic of the engineer is his systemic view, which gives him a good knowledge of the physical, social and economic reality. The transport engineer has also an important role, concerning the transportation movement and the idea of ​​building roads in order to improve the transportation means. The field of transportation engineering is also a multidisciplinary area and a relatively new branch of civil engineering which brings their techniques and concepts from the economy with a common body of knowledge used in civil engineering, although its difficulty of having a precise definition of engineering transport, it is even more complicated to define the transportation engineer. The transportation engineer is responsible for road construction the enable the production flow and the movement of tourists, reflecting on the productive process. In this context the government has proposed ​​doubling BR 101 with 4125 km long has to be highlighted, since the BR-101 is the second largest federal highway of Brazil. It crosses almost the entire Brazilian coast, stretching from Rio Grande do Norte to Rio Grande do Sul and crossing 12 states. The duplication is divided in sections, south, east, northeast, and the northeast receives the greatest attention. In the civil area, it is observed a potential increase of direct and indirect jobs, and this increase may help the absorption of a high percentage of employees, including the skilled ones. The sector contributes to the economic growth through its amplifier effect on the production process, and the representative level of investment.
