Abstract
Water has significant importance in the life of all living beings, this being an essential resource, however, if it is not within the proper parameters, it can become a vehicle for disease transmission. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the microbiological quality of water from dug wells in two municipalities in the interior of the state of Rondônia. Therefore, 12 water samples (six from each municipality) were collected and submitted to the research of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms using the Most Probable Number (MPN) technique. The results obtained after the analysis showed that 83% of the samples were contaminated by total coliforms, while the rate of contamination by thermotolerant coliforms was 58%, these samples being unfit for human consumption. It is concluded that most of the analyzed samples represent a risk to human health, given the contamination presented by bacteria from the coliform group.
