Abstract
Brazil is a country rich in biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge, standing out for its medicinal practices in different communities. This study investigated ethnobotanical knowledge in two communities in Nazaré-Piauí: Jordão II (A) and Santo Expedito (B). The most cited botanical families were Lamiaceae (29.42% in A, 32.15% in B) and Verbanaceae (12.94% in A, 16.92% in B). Estnobotanical indices validate the most cited species, highlighting lemon balm and mint when the question is citation frequency (CF). The leaves were the most used part of the plants, mainly in teas, and the cultivation of small herbs was observed. These findings suggest the importance of more comprehensive studies in the southern region of Piauí, highlighting the richness and relevance of traditional knowledge for popular medicine.
