What is the raison d'être of human rights? Starting from this question and from the premise that human rights demand constant reflection and care, a brief study was carried out on concepts of Immanuel Kant's thought regarding ethics and human morality, with the objective of finding a foundation for human rights that fits contemporary thinking. The work used the deductive qualitative method. It was also sought to examine the need to seek foundations for human rights even today. Kantian thought, which justifies human rights in man himself, proved to be a current and adequate form of reasoning, because in it the elements that stand out are freedom and human dignity.
