Brazil was governed by former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro from 2019 to 2022, during which his administration adopted an armamentist policy, thereby relaxing the regulations pertaining to firearm access for Brazilian citizens. In this context, this presente study aims to investigate whether there has been an increase in femicide rates by firearms, given the significant rise in the number of firearm registrations. Brazil ranks fifth globally in the list of countries with the highest incidences of femicide, with a woman losing her life every six hours. The National Firearms System (SINARM), under the jurisdiction of the Federal Police, reported a substantial increase in firearm registrations between 2019 and 2022, totaling 872,753 new registrations, while the Military Firearms Management System (SIGMA) cataloged 665,918 new entries. Henceforth, this exploratory-descriptive and bibliographical study aspires to empirically investigate whether there has been an escalation in the femicide rate by firearms. This investigation involves comparing the femicide rate with firearm registrations between the years 2019 and 2022 across the entirety of Brazil. Additionally, it aims to present statistical data pertaining to the number of femicides that occurred during these years throughout the Brazilian territory.
