Faced with a scenario as complex as the Covid-19 pandemic, to deal with the challenges presented, there was a need to re-signify the “human being” and “being a nurse”. Protecting oneself and others becomes imperative. The objective of the study was to understand psychosocial phenomena in nursing professionals during the covid-19 pandemic. Qualitative, phenomenological study, developed in the Obstetric Center of a University Hospital in Maranhão, Brazil. The theoretical-methodological reference was Martin Heidegger's phenomenology. The interview was carried out in May and June 2023, totaling 23 nursing professionals, 11 nurses and 12 nursing technicians. Study approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Three units of meaning were identified: The psychological being and covid-19; Being-family and covid-19; The social being and covid-19. The psychological being and covid-19 faced tensions that caused anxiety, stress and emotional exhaustion aggravated by pain, suffering, distance, death and loss. The family-being and covid-19 revealed the fear of contaminating their family members and the concern about giving them attention, care and changed their interaction, solidarity and affection, favoring reflection on their existence and transcendence. Social beings and Covid-19 were faced with changes in their social routine, imposing physical distancing, altering their daily lives and bringing about a transformation in their posture. Nursing professionals reported significant changes in themselves, in others, in the affectivity of their interpersonal relationships and in nursing in a clear way, making them reflect on a tragic scenario, on their own consciousness, existence and finitude.
