PROFILE OF HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS DUE TO STROKE IN SERGIPE

Abstract

Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is a condition characterized by the rupture or obstruction of a blood vessel, preventing blood from reaching brain cells. The guiding question was elaborated: what is the profile of hospitalizations due to stroke in Sergipe? as a way to achieve the objective: to identify the profile of hospitalizations due to cerebrovascular accident in Sergipe. This is an epidemiological study with a descriptive approach and quantitative character. Through hospital information in the state of Sergipe, recorded in the SIH/SUS, data were collected regarding sociodemographic aspects and hospitalization costs, classified by the morbidity list ICD-10: I64 and G45, in the time frame from 2018 to 2023. Among the years evaluated, 7,078 hospitalizations due to stroke were recorded in Sergipe. It was possible to observe an upward trend in the number of hospitalizations since 2018, reaching its peak in 2022. The amounts invested in hospitalizations due to stroke increased until 2020, showed a sudden drop in 2021, and reached their peak in 2022, decreasing again in 2023. The hospital with the highest number of hospitalizations due to stroke was the Governador João Alves Filho Hospital, with 2,870 hospitalizations. The most affected age group was the elderly between 70 and 79 years, with 1,860 hospitalizations. The male gender represents the highest incidence, with 3,735 records. Brown race/color showed the highest number, with 1,869 cases. It is concluded that the highest incidence occurred in 2022, during the pandemic, and the hospitalized patients were mostly elderly brown-skinned men.
