The aim of the research was to discuss the lack of consideration of the cultural dimension in the discourses and practices promoted in spaces of power when it comes to indigenous territories. In order to formulate the debate, a critical analysis was made of the notions of environmental justice and the inverse disproportion between environmental bonuses and burdens, in conjunction with the idea of socio-environmental conflict, which considers the social dimension as an inseparable part of the environment. Methodologically, the work is a theoretical essay, of a qualitative nature, produced from an interdisciplinary bibliographic source, and approached from this perspective. The objective was achieved by explaining the economic logic as preponderant in the conception of sustainable development and, consequently, the lack of value given to the specific cultural aspects of indigenous peoples when dealing with their rights to territories.
